UPS to Buy 27 Boeing 767s
Sandy Springs-based UPS, pushed by international growth and a drive for flexibility in its air fleet, will buy 27 new Boeing 767-300ER freighters.
UPS said the decision is unrelated to whether it will stick with plans to buy a far bigger jet from Airbus, the A380.
The delivery giant didn't disclose the cost of the Boeing deal, which calls for the planes to be delivered between 2009 and 2012. Boeing's list price for the planes would value the order at between $3.86 billion and $4.19 billion; however, big buyers typically get steep discounts.
The company said Monday that the versatile jets can be used on routes to and from Europe and Latin America as well as on coast-to-coast trips in the United States and trips within Asia and Europe. The planes also could replace older craft in the UPS fleet.
