Dyersville Suspends Effort to Get Airport Certified
Dyersville, Iowa, city officials are suspending their pursuit of public-use certification for the Dyersville Airport's landing strip.
The council moved to curb the action at a recent City Council meeting to avoid conflicting with the nearby construction of the US BioEnergy Corp. ethanol plant facility. Interfering with the construction of the 100-million-gallon plant would violate the city's economic incentive package agreement with US BioEnergy.
The local landing strip has been acting as a public-use airport since officials began seeking certification in 2005.
The city still will be able to provide financial assistance. A needs-assessment study might be conducted to determine if a viable site exists for a public-use certified airport, according to City Administrator Mick Michel.
Meanwhile, city leaders hope to fill the vacant position of park and recreation director by March 1. A field of 23 candidates has been narrowed to eight. The position was vacated last June.
