Engine Woes Delay Newark Flight to Israel
A Continental Airlines flight to Tel Aviv was delayed for several hours at Newark International Airport yesterday when the aircraft developed engine trouble as it headed to the runway for take off, officials said.
No one was injured and there was no impact on other flights, according to the airline and officials with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey which operates the airport.
Flight 84, with 260 passengers and 16 crew members, was originally scheduled to take off yesterday at 3:50 p.m., Continental spokeswoman Mary Clark said, and the Boeing 777 aircraft left Terminal C at 4 p.m. The aircraft came to a safe stop at the runway, but engine malfunction forced the aircraft to return to the terminal.
The passengers were escorted to another aircraft, and the flight was scheduled to take off at 7:30 p.m., Clark said. The investigation into the malfunction was continuing, she added.
