Landing Trouble Closes Chattanooga Airport
The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport closed for six hours Wednesday after a private jet had trouble landing, airport spokeswoman Christina Siebold said.
A system failure caused two tires on the Beechcraft jet to flatten during landing on the main runway about 5:30 p.m., Ms. Siebold said.
Atlanta-based manufacturers of the Beechcraft jet, came to Chattanooga to repair the damage. The runway reopened shortly before 11:30 p.m.
"It caused some disruption," Ms. Siebold said. "Numerous inbound flights were rerouted to neighboring airports, and some people were bused to Chattanooga. Outbound passengers were either put up (in hotels) in Chattanooga or were put in cabs for Atlanta."
The airport has a secondary runway, which is closed for construction, Ms. Siebold said.
