Baggage Cart Hits Departing United Jet at O'Hare gate

United Flight 462 bound for Charlotte, N.C., had just pulled back from a gate when it was struck.

A baggage cart vehicle hit a United Airlines jet at O'Hare International Airport Thursday morning, prompting an emergency response from firefighters, but there were no injuries, authorities said.

Crews were called about 7 a.m. to a gate area after the vehicle "clipped the fuselage" of the plane, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado said.

United Flight 462 bound for Charlotte, N.C., had just pulled back from a gate when it was struck, airline spokesman Jeff Kovick said. He said the 111 passengers aboard the Airbus were put on another plane and left for Charlotte about 90 minutes behind schedule.

There was no fuel spill, and the scene was secured within 10 minutes, Rosado said.
