Mercury Spilled at Sydney Airport

SYDNEY airport was the site of a potentially deadly chemical spill when mercury leaked from a machine in a loading area yesterday.

The surrounding area was evacuated and hazardous material crews were called to contain the spill at about 2pm.

Three cHazMat crews in spillage suits and breathing apparatus worked for several hours to remove the waste.

There were no reported injuries and flights were not affected.

Experts says mercury exposure can seriously damage the nervous system and brain.
