Sean Hunter named director of aviation at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
The New Orleans Aviation Board today voted to name Sean Hunter director of aviation at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Hunter, 41, has been interim director of aviation since May 2006 when Roy Williams left to run an airport in Utah.
"Sean has been doing a tremendous job since being named interim director last year and we felt that he was the best candidate for the position," said Lea Polk Montgomery, chairperson of the Personnel Committee.
Hunter will continue to earn the $150,719 interim director until a full-time salary is negotiated and brought to the Board for consideration in the future.
The Detroit native began his 20-year career as a Naval air traffic controller. He was honorably discharged in 1992 and hired as an airport operations officer with the Atlantic City International Airport.
Hunter joined the New Orleans Aviation Board in July of 1995 as executive assistant to the director of aviation. Hunter was promoted to deputy director of operations and maintenance in December 1999. He has twice before filled executive level vacancies due to sudden retirements without additional compensation - deputy director of safety and security and disadvantaged business enterprise liaison officer.
Hunter holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in aviation from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He is married to the former Shauna Crowden and is the father of an 11-year-old son, Sean Christian.
