Passengers are still dissatisfied with the baggage delivery service provided by airlines, according to the Coalition for Luggage Security.

The coalition said that, according to a recent study by the University of Michigan, airlines have consistently failed to satisfy customers.

The organisation believes that adjustments to the existing model are not enough and the whole system of baggage handling and screening in airports needs rethinking.

Josh Holm, director of the Coalition For Luggage Security, said the coalition was urging "government officials and the airline industry to eliminate threats that result from the presence of luggage in airports and on passenger flights".

He added: "Passenger luggage should not be shipped on passenger flights, and we propose passengers should be given a choice to ship their bags in advance of their trip to reach their destination before they arrive".
