The main runway at Oakland International Airport reopened on Monday morning (4 June) after an incident involving a Southwest Airlines aircraft forced authorities to close it overnight.

Southwest Flight 3050, which was carrying 119 passengers and crew, was reportedly travelling from Sacramento to San Diego on Sunday (3 June) when a problem was picked up with its landing gear.

According to The Associated Press, the pilot was diverted to Oakland to land and air traffic controllers noticed that the Boeing 737's rear landing gear was cocked to the side, although it was seen to be correctly placed after the aircraft retracted and lowered its landing gear again.

However the nose of the aircraft reportedly collapsed after landing, leading to the closure of the runway.
