A construction worker was killed Wednesday afternoon after being run over at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, officials said.

The man, whose name was not released, was working at the site of what will be the airport's new international terminal when he was run over by a vehicle, most likely a dump truck, about 3:30 p.m., said airport spokesman Hershel Grangent.

The critically hurt man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Grangent said.

An Atlanta man was sentenced Thursday to three years in federal prison and ordered to pay $3.6 million for scamming dozens of customers who paid him handsomely for luxury cars, authorities said.

Even after he was charged with the crime and released on bond, Ali Raza, 54, continued to deceive customers and reaped $1 million more from them, the U.S. attorney's office said.

"The defendant in this case is a consummate confidence man," said U.S. Attorney David Nahmias.

Prosecutors said that starting in 2000, Raza --- who is also known as Hasan Ali Raza --- placed ads in magazines saying he had pricey foreign cars for sale. He told potential buyers that the imported cars would meet federal highway and environmental standards or would be exempt from them --- and thus, a buyer could legally drive the car in the United States, Nahmias said.

After delivery, the buyers discovered the cars did not meet federal standards. They then spent a hefty sum to get the cars to conform to U.S. standards, Nahmias said.

Raza continued to defraud buyers through at least last year, but altered the scheme somewhat: He would take their money, but deliver nothing in return, prosecutors said.

All told, Raza collected more than $3 million from buyers, including $1 million while running his scheme while he was out on bond, Nahmias said.
