Plans to hire over 350 new pilots with training dates starting in November 2007, and to move 140 pilots currently flying for US Airways Express carriers back to mainline flying seats, have been unveiled by US Airways (NYSE:LCC).
The airline said its pilot staffing requirements are being driven mainly by retiring mainline pilots. It confirmed new hire pilots will move to its increasing Embraer 190 fleet, which will drive existing pilots to other aircraft, such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
US Airways intends to fill the positions during the next 12-16 months. The airline confirmed it will no longer have any pilots on furlough.
