Tulip City Airport tax request moves forward
PARK TOWNSHIP -- Voters in Holland, Zeeland and Park and Holland townships will consider a 0.01-mill request next May for operations of the Tulip City Airport.
The West Michigan Airport Authority on Monday approved a May 6 ballot and ballot language to be considered by the Holland and Zeeland city councils and Holland and Park township boards for approval.
Authority members are seeking approval of the ballot resolution by all four municipalities by mid-December.
If approved by voters next spring, the airport millage would raise about $384,000 in 2009.
The airport currently operates on a $260,000 annual budget, mainly from fees.
The proposed millage amounts to 10 cents per $1,000 of state equalized assessment on a home. A home valued for tax purposes at $100,000 (about $200,000 market value) would pay about $10 a year for the regional airport.
