Nov. 19--VICTORVILLE -- Another 1 million-square-foot warehouse has been approved by the Victorville Planning Commission, to be built at Southern California Logistics Airport.
Drawings show that the complex calls for the shipping and receiving of containers by truck, with about 360 trailer parking spaces. A lessee has not yet been confirmed, said Dougall Agan, principal of Foothill Ranchbased Stirling Enterprises.
Stirling, the city's private partner and master developer of the site, is building the warehouse on speculation.
"We're hoping to have it built in the next 12 months," Agan said.
The Planning Commission also approved a 1 million-squarefoot warehouse near the Nutro Pet Products factory at Foxborough Industrial Park, at Ottawa Street and Hesperia Road.
The building at Southern California Logistics is part of phase one of Stirling's project, which calls for 6.5 million square feet of industrial space over 350 acres of land.
Phase one also includes the 407,000-square-foot Newell Rubbermaid Distribution Center, already in operation; two multitenant industrial buildings totaling about 224,000 square feet that will be completed in February; and a 296,000-square-foot distribution building set for completion in the second quarter of 2008.
Construction on the two smaller complexes is already under way.
Southern California Logistics Airport is an 8,500-acre complex being transformed into a multimodal freight transportation hub supported by air, ground and rail connections. The airport was formerly George Air Force Base.
The developer estimates that 24,000 jobs will be created at the complex when it is complete, with 18,500 support jobs in the surrounding area.
