St. Louis airport board names attorney to replace Sweet

Jan. 22--BETHALTO -- Officials accepted the resignation of the St. Louis Regional Airport Authority's attorney on Thursday and named his replacement.
The board accepted the resignation of Dean Sweet, 62, who will replace retiring Associate Judge Ralph Mendelsohn of Madison County. Sweet's resignation is effective as of Jan. 29, which is when he will be sworn into his judgeship.
The board also accepted the resignation of its secretary, Jeffrey Weishaupt. Following an executive session, the board voted 6-0 in favor of naming Weishaupt as its new attorney.
Weishaupt was not in attendance.
Board member Steve Kochan was selected as the new secretary.
Airport manager David Miller thanked Sweet for his services and presented him with an encased U.S. flag that has been flown over the airport.
"I know since you are military that you will appreciate this," Miller said.
"As a veteran, I do appreciate it," Sweet said.
Chairman Dick Bell, along with board members Kochan, George Marchino, Darrell McGibany, Shirley Kleeman and Matt Stimac, congratulated Sweet.
In other action, the board:
- voted 6-0 in favor of a 3 percent salary increase for Miller and the airport operations director.
- announced that the Airport Restaurant would be closing on Feb. 15.
- signed a lease for $2,500 per month with West Star Aviation for Hangar 16.
- approved an easement for the east side of Hanger 61 for West Star, which rebuilt the structure after it was destroyed in a July 2006 storm to accommodate the facility's HVAC system.
- discussed the former Langa Air Service facilities being rented by Aaero Aviation Services Inc. to start flight school, beginning March 1.
