NEW YORK, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Secretary of the United States Departments of Transportation and Commerce and Hill & Knowlton Vice Chairman Norman Y. Mineta will be the featured guest at a three-day celebration of the grand re-opening of the Mineta San Jose International Airport this weekend.

The celebration marks the completion of the first phase of a nearly $2 billion capital improvement project. Mineta will participate in a number of events at the airport including a large public open house at the new terminals on Saturday. The city of San Jose named the airport after Mineta, a native of the community, in 2002.

"We are very proud of our colleague and friend. He is a great American and this airport that bears his name is now state of the art," said Paul Taaffe, Hill & Knowlton chairman and global CEO. "We salute his tremendous achievements and the honor he deserves for his service."

Mineta joined Hill & Knowlton in July 2006, after more than 40 years of public service. He is vice chairman of the global communication consultancy and works from the firm's office in Washington, DC. His client work spans the globe and he is sought after for his extensive experience with local, state, national and international issues.

"Norm is an amazing asset to our firm and this is truly exciting for him to be recognized in this way and at this magnitude," said Jennifer Temple, general manager of Hill & Knowlton's San Francisco office. "Our clients throughout the world know Norm and most have worked with him in some capacity. He is a remarkable colleague and it is an honor to work with him."
