Union expects Hawker Beechcraft contract offer Tuesday

Oct. 01--WICHITA -- Hawker Beechcraft expects to have a final contract offer to the Machinists union sometime Tuesday, union spokesman Bob Wood says.

Members will have time to look over the offer before they vote Oct. 9 at the Kansas Coliseum.

The union agreed to open negotiations a year early because the company says it must cut costs and is looking inside and outside the U.S. to move work.

Hawker Beechcraft has had offers from Mississippi and Louisiana to place work there. Louisiana recently tripled its offer, a union official said last month.

Talks could run over from the company-imposed Tuesday deadline, however. That's been the case in recent Machinists talks with Spirit AeroSystems and Cessna Aircraft.
