SANFORD, Fla. --

A passenger noticed flames shooting from a jet engine as a flight was preparing for takeoff early Friday morning from Orlando-Sanford International Airport.

Authorities with the Seminole County Fire Department said the Allegiant Airlines jet with 150 passengers aboard was being pushed back from a gate when one of the passengers saw the fire from a window inside the jet and alerted the crew.

Everyone was safely evacuated from the plane and boarded another flight to Roanoke, Va., with only a short delay, Allegiant Airlines representative Tyri Squyres said.

Firefighters said the blaze did not extend inside the plane.
