For improving traffic congestion around Terminal 2, Sydney Airport has taken up a project which is likely to cost around $1.5 million. Sydney s domestic terminal, T2 is used by Jetstar, Virgin, Tiger Airways, QantasLink and other regional airlines.

The taxi rank at the gateway s domestic terminal will be increased through this project from present 10 spaces to 15, which will help in reducing the traffic congestion. It will even help in addressing the required capacity to serve the increased number of passenger. According to Kerrie Mather, CEO of Sydney Airport, The increased capacity will provide an improved service for passengers and drivers and help reduce the time people spend at the rank. Mather added, The aim of the upgrade is to reduce traffic congestion and make it easier for taxis to access the ranks at both T2 and T3. Mainly, the relocation of the pre-booked taxi area will be carried out which will result in increasing the capacity to 20 taxis from present 6. The work will also include the developing a new undercover walkway from T2 to the public pick-up area, that will prevent passengers from wet weather. The work is likely to conclude in December. The upgrade will even includes relocation of some of the bus stops, that will separate taxis and buses, thereby improving traffic flow as well as reduce waiting times for passengers. Construction of a new entrance to the 10-minute free public pick-up area will also be done along with related works, like certain changes to kerbs, footpaths and additional signage.
