Sacramento Travelers Sound Off On Airline Fees

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --

Pam Collins minced no words as she pulled her carry-on through Sacramento International Airport's terminal A Wednesday morning.

"It's bad. I don't like those fees at all," said Collins.

She was reacting to JD Power and Associates' latest airline rankings that highlight one glaring negative amid generally positive findings.

For the second consecutive year, North American airlines showed customer service improvement. The exception was increased dissatisfaction with added airline fees for everything from checked bags to snacks on the plane.

"I don't really like them at all. Whenever I buy a ticket I know I have to add $25 to $50 because everybody's now doing it," said airline passenger Jim Bartkowiak.

"Passengers have adjusted their expectations during the past several years and now appear more satisfied with the convenience and speed that technology has enabled ... the real slippage came with additional fees within the cost and fee category," said JD Power's Stuart Greif.

JetBlue, Alaska and Southwest were among the highest ranked airlines.

Delta, United and U.S. Airways were among the lowest ranked major carriers.

The rankings took into consideration seven measures (in order of importance): cost and fees; in-flight services; flight crew; aircraft; boarding/departing/baggage; check-in; and reservation.
