Aug. 11, 2011

DENVER - Year-to-date passenger traffic at Denver International Airport for the first half of the year was up 2.6 percent above the same six-month period last year.

Airport officials reported Wednesday that 25,621,310 travellers passed through DIA through June, an increase of 641,479.

Last year was a record-breaking year for DIA with nearly 52 million passengers traveling through the facility, making it the busiest in the airport's 16-year history.

(DIA's growing numbers are in stark contrast to those at the Colorado Springs Airport, where passenger traffic in the first half of the year was down 2.9 percent from the same period a year ago to 401,634. In 2010, passenger traffic at the Springs airport reached a 16-year low.)
