ONTARIO - L.A./Ontario International Airport's passenger volumes continued to fall in July, according to new numbers.

Passenger traffic has declined at ONT while Los Angeles International Airport has gotten busier. Ontario city officials are seeking to take control of ONT from Los Angeles World Airports, which runs ONT and LAX.

Nearly 2.7 million passengers took flights through ONT through July this year. Compared to the first seven months of last year, ONT's fliers were down 4.3 percent.

Airport statistics also show a steep decline for summertime traffic. July's passenger totals fell by more than 42,000 fliers - or 9.6 percent - compared to the same month in 2010.

That decline was not as severe, however, as June's 11 percent drop.

At LAX, passenger traffic has increased 5.6 percent through July to nearly 36 million passengers.

For the month of July, LAX passenger traffic increased 6.7 percent to more than 6 million fliers.
