Herschel Walker Seeking Concession Space at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

Aug. 31, 2011

Football legend Herschel Walker is launching The Greatest Bulldog, a high energy sports bar, as part of Creative Food Group's proposal for food service concessions on Concourses T and D at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. To be operated by Creative Food Group Inc., The Greatest Bulldog will provide a dynamic and entertaining experience for travelers at Hartsfield Jackson. Given the strong sense of place that Herschel Walker brings to Atlanta and Georgia and the universal recognition that he receives across the U.S., locating The Greatest Bulldog at the greatest airport was a natural choice.

A Georgia native, Walker first gained public recognition in 1979 as a Johnson County Trojan in his hometown of Wrightsville, where he earned the Dial Corporation H.S. Athlete/Scholar of the Year and became the most sought-after high school football player in the nation. In 1982, he was awarded both the Maxwell Award and the coveted Heisman Trophy in his junior year as a Georgia Bulldog at the University of Georgia. To this day Walker remains "The Greatest Bulldog" with a string of unbroken National Collegiate Athletic Association records.

Aside from his immense successes on the gridiron, Walker's business acumen has led him also to a successful business career. In 1999, Walker started Renaissance Man Food Service (RMFS), a very successful food service company with headquarters in Savannah, Ga. Among other items, RMFS created "Herschel's Famous 34," a line of chicken and ribs of incomparable taste and quality that will be featured on The Greatest Bulldog menu. The menu will also feature local specialty foods native to the cities where Walker played pro ball such as "Tony Luke's Cheesesteak from Philly," "Botto's Sausage" from New Jersey, "Georgia Pecan Brownies," Dallas-inspired BBQ and Minnesota's fresh catch salmon.

The Greatest Bulldog Herschel Walker Sports Pub brand will offer old-fashioned Southern hospitality with top-quality food and exceptional customer service. The design of wood and brick finishes will be decorated with Walker's sports memorabilia and wall murals highlighting his athletic achievements and personal accomplishments. Tabletops will display memorabilia depicting Walker's many NCAA records, and a video montage of his greatest athletic feats from football to bobsledding to martial arts will be shown. Autographed menus, footballs, helmets and related items will also be available for sale.

If Creative Food Group's proposal is successful, Walker is planning to attend the grand opening of The Greatest Bulldog and is certain to visit often on his frequent travels through Hartsfield-Jackson.

Creative Food Group is a minority-owned company with over 15 years of high volume locations including restaurants in Newark Liberty International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport and New York Penn Station. Included in Creative Food Group's bid for concession spaces at Hartsfield-Jackson are Atlanta's iconic "Manuel's Tavern," a concept created by local CelebrityChef Ford Fry, the award-winning wine bistro "Vino Volo" with food from local restaurateur, Cafe Circa'sKevin Holt, and "Subway Café."

The City of Atlanta is currently evaluating proposals from dozens of companies and restaurants as part of the airport's massive overhaul of its concessions, with a focus on bringing local flavor to the airport. Bids will be awarded in the near future, with construction of the selected restaurants to start in 2012.
