Turkish plane removed from Mumbai airport runway
umbai, Sep. 5 -- Mumbai airport authorities finally succeeded in retrieving the stranded Turkish Airlines aircraft Monday morning, nearly 75 hours after it skidded and got stuck beside the main runway, an official said.
The aircraft was removed from the place near the main runway around 6.17 a.m. and towed to the Air India hangar half an hour later.
Just before 7 a.m. Monday, the main runway - 0927 - was handed over to the Air Traffic Control to resume normal operations.
The main runway was closed at 4 a.m. Friday after the Turkish Airlines Airbus A-340-300 skidded after landing and got stuck in the soft mud following heavy rains. All 104 passengers, including 11 crew member, were safely evacuated.
Though details are awaited, normal operations have resumed from the main runway and all arrivals and departures are expected to be on schedule.
