Dow survey names Delta Air Lines sustainability leader

Sept. 15, 2011

Delta Air Lines and 142 other companies have been named to a stock-market index designed to measure their approach to being socially responsible.

Delta is one of four global airlines on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America listed as "sustainability leaders" in the annual survey.

Partnering with Dow Jones on the index is the global sustainable-investing firm SAM, and they describe their list as "a key resource for investors seeking opportunities to support socially responsible companies and industries."

Atlanta-based Delta, whose westernmost hub is at Salt Lake City International Airport, was cited for its 20 percent reduction of carbon monoxide emissions from 2005 to 2010, and its corporate and employee donations to such causes as the American Red Cross, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.

"The recognition underscores Delta's ongoing commitment to corporate responsibility across its global network," the airline said in a statement.
