Sept. 26, 2011

The city of Leesburg issued the following news release:

Several vintage "warbirds" will perform a military formation flyover at Leesburg Executive Airport to kickoff the 2nd annual Leesburg Airshow on Saturday, October 1, 2011.

Coordinated by the National Capitol Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force, the flyover formation will include North American T-6 "Texans" (pictured at right) and North American T-28 "Trojans." The United States Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force used these aircraft extensively to train pilots from World War II through the 1980s.

The formation is expected to perform the flyover and then land at the Leesburg Executive Airport between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011. After arrival, the aircraft will be part of the military aircraft display area, featuring both vintage and modern aircraft, and will be accessible to the general public.
