Complementing cargo handling operations in Hungary, India and Turkey, this is Çelebi’s fourth large-scale cargo handling operation. In keeping with its strategy to provide ground handling and cargo handling services on a larger international scale, Çelebi has opened the most modern and state-of-the-art facility in Cargo City South at Frankfurt Airport by offering full range cargo warehousing and documentary services.

Can Çelebioglu, Chairman of Çelebi Holding said: “Our presence at Frankfurt Airport is an integral part of our approach towards Western and Central Europe. We see this as a further step in setting up hub distribution and a full handling network in Europe. It is our intent to bring in a new model of handling into the market, which is based on best-in-class quality coupled with superior technological development.”

The operation in Frankfurt is already underway with its first major key account, which after only a few weeks of handling is working extremely well. The focus is on real time information systems and high quality care of the complex product needs of the customer, including stringent security standards beyond normal German and international levels and much optimized in-check and out-check timings. The mission is to provide the most advanced technology for full automization coupled with the ability to handle air cargo in the most flexible and customer-focused ways. This strategy is one of its kind and underlines the Çelebi innovation of marrying technology with spirit.

Çelebi’s customers receive automatic status updates of the cargo even within the warehouse itself as well as full inventories of cargo and equipment at the touch of a button. The warehouse offers 16,000 sqm (excluding the Automatic Pallet Handling System (APHS) which can store some 280 main deck pallets) and some 8,000 sqm office space, giving it a capacity to handle up to 240,000 tons per annum. Furthermore full weighing and measuring or x-raying is fully automized for all cargo types. Special storage facilities ensure all services can be offered in one hand. The warehouse has been built in its own secured area preventing traffic congestion, which continues to be an issue for most other areas in Cargo City South.

Not only is Çelebi investing in the most progressive systems, but also in highly experienced and trained international management, which is to lead Çelebi’s expansion in Europe. With the addition of the Frankfurt hub and further expansion in other areas, these will offer space for some 1 million tons going through 2011. Çelebi is focusing on a clear strategy of global airfreight development.
