FAA awards $1.2B contract to General Dynamics

The Federal Aviation Administration awarded a 10-year contract worth up to $1.2 billion to General Dynamics as part of its plan to modernize the U.S. air traffic control system.

The Virginia-based contractor will provide research and development and systems engineering services intended to upgrade information technology infrastructure. The work will focus on several areas, including automation, airplane design and analysis, avionic systems operations and maintenance, and airspace system security.

The FAA's Air Traffic Control and Next Generation modernization program also will require major updates and modernization for aircraft, air traffic control facilities and airport technologies.
