ITW GSE 7400 eGPU Expands Role in Remote-Stand Charging

The battery-powered 7400 eGPU can support both aircraft ground power requirements and electric ground support equipment charging, offering ground handlers additional flexibility at remote aircraft stands.

ITW GSE is highlighting how its battery-powered 7400 eGPU can support both aircraft ground power requirements and electric ground support equipment charging, offering ground handlers additional flexibility at remote aircraft stands.

The company's 90 kVA 7400 eGPU is available with optional auxiliary outlets that allow operators to use the unit's onboard battery capacity for applications beyond supplying 400 Hz power to parked aircraft.

A 32A outlet enables charging of electric GSE, including cargo loaders, while a separate 16A outlet provides power for aircraft servicing activities, such as cabin cleaning and maintenance. Power consumption through both outlets can be monitored for tracking and billing purposes.

The capability addresses a growing challenge for ground handlers transitioning to electric equipment: providing adequate charging infrastructure without increasing equipment movements across the apron.

By allowing electric GSE to recharge at remote stands, operators can potentially reduce trips to centralized charging stations and improve equipment availability during aircraft turnarounds.

According to ITW GSE, SOUTH, the IAG Group handling company serving Iberia flights, was among the first customers interested in the mobile power bank capability. The company recently purchased 90 ITW GSE eGPUs for deployment across Spanish airports, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville.

Jose Manuel De Las Heras, senior sales and business development manager at ITW GSE, discussed the technology in the October 2026 issue of Ground Handling International, emphasizing the potential to reduce equipment movements and charging infrastructure costs.

The auxiliary charging capability complements ITW GSE's broader EcoGate system, which coordinates aircraft ground power, preconditioned air and electric equipment charging to make more efficient use of available electrical capacity.
