Nine New Aerobridges Installed At MAA
The Chennai Airport will see the installation of nine new aerobridges to reduce 'turnaround time' for air passengers.
Imported from Indonesia, the first three aerobridges will be installed by the end of the month, while the rest will arrive by August end, said Airport Director HS Suresh. "The turnaround time is something that we are trying to constantly improve and with these new aerobridges and the design of the new terminal it will definitely be reduced," he said.
These aerobridges will be state-of-the-art and are the same that are being procured for other international airports. They will supplement and increase the function of the five existing aerobridges that are present at the Chennai airport.
While two aerobridges are to be connected at the international terminal, the remaining will be distributed between the old and new domestic terminals.
"The time that people take to disembark, take a bus, collect their luggage and then exit will be halved. Once the time improves, the operational efficiency of the airport will also improve," he added.
