Blackhawk.io Connects More Than 10,000 GSE Assets Across Global Airport Network

The company, which participated in GSE Expo Europe 2026 in Lisbon, provides a platform designed to connect powered and non-powered GSE across different manufacturers and equipment types.

Blackhawk.io is expanding the use of its connected fleet management technology across airport ground support operations, with its platform now monitoring more than 10,000 assets across more than 60 airports.

The company, which participated in GSE Expo Europe 2026 in Lisbon, provides a platform designed to connect powered and non-powered GSE across different manufacturers and equipment types. Blackhawk.io says its technology currently supports more than 70 asset types at airports in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The system combines telematics, maintenance information and asset management data to give ground operations teams greater visibility into equipment location, utilization, service requirements and lifecycle performance.

Rather than relying solely on calendar-based maintenance or equipment age to make fleet decisions, operators can use actual runtime and maintenance data to determine when equipment should be serviced, relocated, retained or replaced.

In one large-scale airline deployment, connected GSE data identified underutilized equipment that allowed the operator to reduce some asset classes by up to 10% and redeploy other equipment to different airport locations. Moving from calendar-based servicing to maintenance based on actual equipment use also reduced GSE maintenance costs by up to 10%, according to Blackhawk.io.

The technology can be used with powered equipment such as baggage tugs, belt loaders, ground power units and pushback tractors as well as non-powered assets. Mobile tools also allow ground crews to locate equipment, conduct inspections and report equipment as unserviceable.

Blackhawk.io says bringing equipment data into a common platform can help ground handlers and airlines better understand fleet utilization, maintenance requirements and equipment availability while making longer-term fleet replacement decisions based on operating data.
