Etihad Airways and Swissport have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their global partnership, increasing the number of airports where Swissport serves the airline from 30 to 40.

The expanded relationship covers airports across Africa, Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia, adding 10 locations to Swissport's existing operations for Etihad.

Under the agreement, the companies will work together across ground handling and cargo services. The partnership also provides a framework to add airports and services as Etihad continues to expand its network.

Technology will be another focus of the relationship. Etihad and Swissport plan to explore automation, artificial intelligence and data-driven solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency, service delivery and safety. That includes Swissport's work with autonomous ground vehicles.

"Etihad is expanding at pace, and each new destination we add depends on the right standard of service being in place on the ground before the first flight arrives," said Capt. Majed Al Marzouqi, chief operations and guest officer at Etihad Airways.

Al Marzouqi said working with one partner across 40 airports will provide greater consistency as the airline grows.

Warwick Brady, president and CEO of Swissport, said the company's global network, operational expertise and technology capabilities will support Etihad's expansion.

"Our track record in managing complex, large aviation hubs will enable us to support Etihad effectively wherever its growth takes it," Brady said.

The companies also may extend their relationship into airport hospitality through Swissport's Aspire lounge business, which operates 110 lounges worldwide.
