Swissport Names Steven Polmans Global SVP Cargo

Polmans will oversee the development and execution of Swissport’s global cargo strategy, focusing on commercial performance, innovation, and operational excellence.

Swissport has appointed Steven Polmans as Global Senior Vice President Cargo, effective November 15, 2025. In his new role, Polmans will lead Swissport’s worldwide air cargo operations and report directly to the company’s Global Cargo Chair.

With more than 20 years of experience in the aviation and logistics sectors, Polmans will oversee the development and execution of Swissport’s global cargo strategy, focusing on commercial performance, innovation, and operational excellence. His appointment supports Swissport’s goal of expanding its cargo business, a key pillar in the company’s long-term growth strategy.

Before joining Swissport, Polmans worked as an independent air cargo consultant and previously served as Vice President Business Development at Abu Dhabi Airports. Earlier in his career, he was Director of Cargo and Logistics at Brussels Airport Company, where he helped develop BRUcargo into a leading hub for pharmaceutical logistics. He was also the founding chairman of Air Cargo Belgium and later served as chairman of The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), where he played a key role in fostering collaboration across the global air cargo industry.

In his new position, Polmans will identify and pursue growth opportunities through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. He will oversee all commercial, business development, and M&A activities related to Swissport’s cargo operations.

Swissport’s air cargo division handles more than five million tonnes of freight annually across 117 cargo warehouses worldwide. The appointment of Polmans reflects Swissport’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its leadership team with industry experts capable of driving sustainable growth and innovation throughout its global network.
