Delta Plane Stuck on Las Vegas Tarmac Leads to at Least 1 Person Treated for Heat-Related Illness
LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A Delta Airlines flight that was stuck on the airport tarmac for about four hours had to be canceled after temperatures in the plane reportedly became so hot that that at least one passenger was treated for a heat-related illness.
Insider reports that Flight 555, which was destined for Atlanta, was behind several other planes waiting to take off Monday at Harry Reid International Airport when temperatures reached “uncomfortable” levels inside the plane. The plane is not air-conditioned and temperatures in Last Vegas were around 114 degrees at the time, according to Fox Weather.
Conditions in the plane led to some passengers losing consciousness and others soiling themselves, Fox reports.
Krista Garvin, a field producer for Fox News who was on the flight, says she saw at least five people wheeled off the plane after it returned to the gate.
“The sanitary crew came on board because some people had thrown up,” Garvin tells Fox Weather. “I want to say one woman walked up the aisle. She was visibly ill. She couldn’t even open her eyes. She was swaying back and forth.”
A spokesperson with Delta tells Insider that passengers on the plane were “compensated” and that others were assisted in finding other flights out of Las Vegas.
“We apologize for the experience our customers had on Flight 555 from Las Vegas to Atlanta on July 17, which ultimately resulted in a flight cancellation,” the airline said in a statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “Delta teams are looking into the circumstances that led to uncomfortable temperatures inside the cabin and we appreciate the efforts of our people and first responders at Harry Reid International.”
