Two Lions Sedated after Escaping Cages at Singapore Airport
Two lions were sedated Sunday after escaping from their freight containers at a Singapore airport.
According to The Straits Times, the lions were part of a larger group being transported on Singapore Airlines when they broke free at Changi Airport.
The big cats, which were on their way to an “overseas facility,” had a short “stand off” with animal control officers, with one jumping on top of its cage at one point, but were eventually tranquilized and are recovering in the care of the Mandai Wildlife Group.
The lions’ origin and final destination were not disclosed by the airlines for “commercial sensitivity and confidentiality reasons.”
However, the airline said the lions were within the boundaries created by the safety netting surrounding their cages throughout.
No injuries to the lions or any humans involved in the incident were reported.
