Sen. Cruz: My Focus Is Understanding What Went Wrong and What Can Be Done to Prevent These Fatal Crashes From Happening Again

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, released a video ahead of the Commerce Committee’s hearing with Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg – the company’s first congressional testimony since the two fatal 737 MAX crashes that resulted the deaths of 346 innocent people. The hearing follows Sen. Cruz’s hearing earlier this year, which launched the committee’s investigation examining the crashes. 

 “As chairman of the Aviation and Space Committee, am going to keep focusing on understanding what went wrong,” Sen. Cruz says in the video. “What went wrong on the regulatory process? Why did they sign off on a training system where the pilots aren’t told about this new operation that could endanger the system? And how can we fix it? How can we make it better?”

In March, after the second fatal Boeing 737 MAX crash within six months, Sen. Cruz called for the grounding of all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. In May, during FAA Administrator Stephen Dickson’s confirmation hearing, Sen. Cruz urged Dickson to be “pissed off that 346 people died,” and to commit to helping the committee determine what went wrong.
