Scandinavia's SAS Airline to Resume Talks with Pilots Amid Strike
Stockholm — Scandinavian airline SAS is to resume talks with the associations representing pilots who have been on strike for more than a week, the various pilot associations said on Tuesday.
The talks are to restart in Stockholm on Wednesday.
On Monday, SAS said it had informed mediators that it wished to proceed with negotiations aimed at securing a salary and conditions deal ending the strike, which has hit thousands of SAS customers every day.
The airline's competitiveness was at stake, SAS said. It estimates that the strike is costing the company around 90 million kroner ($8.5 million) per day.
The last round of talks broke down on July 4, with around 900 SAS pilots from Denmark, Norway and Sweden then going on strike.
The pilots' associations accuse SAS of abusing the coronavirus pandemic to dismiss almost half the pilots with an agreed right to reinstatement and then invalidating this right.
