Nov. 4—Flair Airlines, a low-cost Canadian airline, will be starting direct flights to San Francisco International Airport from Vancouver and Edmonton, Canada, starting in spring 2022.

The new routes could foster a connection between San Francisco and Canada, airline and San Francisco tourism officials said.

" Canada was one of the San Francisco Bay Area's top visitor markets for visitor volume in 2019. With the U.S. border opening to all international travelers meeting CDC requirements this coming Monday, we're excited to see new air service being added to SFO," said Lori Lincoln, vice president of media relations at the San Francisco Travel Association.

"Flair's new flights to SFO will provide even more options for Canadians wanting to visit San Francisco in 2022," she added.

Nonstop flights from Edmonton start on April 14, 2022, and will fly twice a week, while flights from Vancouver start May 17 and will fly three times a week.

The airline offers a low base fare but charges extra for services like seat selection and carry on items, as well as for checked bags, priority boarding or bringing specialty items.

"Traveling and reconnecting with friends will be among the top priorities for many Canadians in the coming months," said Stephen Jones, president and CEO of Flair Airlines, in a press release.

The airline also will also start nonstop flights to Nashville and Denver in the spring. The new destinations will bring the airline's total locations served to 28.
