Copilot of TAROM Amsterdam to Bucharest Flight Falls Sick Short Before Landing
Aug. 4—BUCHAREST — The copilot of the TAROM Amsterdam to Bucharest flight got sick just before landing and was awaited on tarmac by the 'Henri Coanda' Otopeni International Airport ambulance and given medical assistance immediately after touchdown.
According to TAROM spokesman Marius Popescu, just near Otopeni the copilot complained of feeling unwell so that the captain took over the plane's command and landed it on time and safely.
There were 76 passengers on board.
"The Amsterdam — Otopeni flight landed safely at the scheduled time, 15:30. Near Otopeni, the copilot complained of malaise, said he was not feeling well. The captain immediately took command of the aircraft and landed it at the previously designated position, there was no intervention on the runway; the ambulance awaiting for him was that of the 'Henri Coanda' International Airport, there was no need for resuscitation. The copilot was conscious and cooperative all the time," Marius Popescu told AGERPRES on Wednesday, adding that TAROM flight crews are constantly trained for such situations with the help of the flight simulator.
