Allegiant Plans $75 Million Operations Center at Austin Airport, will Create 89 Jobs
Allegiant Travel will establish an operations center at Austin- Bergstrom International Airport's South Terminal that the airline says will result in an investment of $75 million and nearly 90 new jobs.
The Las Vegas-based carrier, which focuses on low cost flights and is the ninth-largest commercial airline in the United States, said it will create at least 89 jobs at the Austin facility, which will house three Airbus A320 aircraft.
Allegiant said the Austin operations center's estimated start date is Nov. 18.
“It makes perfect sense to establish a permanent base in Austin, further establishing Allegiant as a hometown airline in a city we love and where we plan to grow," said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue. "Having locally based operations will mean opportunities for expanded hours, as well as more – and more frequent – flight offerings for visitors and locals alike.”
Allegiant has been offering flights at ABIA since 2013 and currently offers 14 nonstop routes. Since establishing service, Allegiant has flown more than 1.1 million passengers through Austin, according to the company.
“The potential for added flights will bring more travelers into the area and offer Central Texans extra options when it comes to their own travel plans," said Austin City Council Member Vanessa Fuentes, who represents District 2 – where Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is located. "The airport is an economic driver in our local economy, and I'm excited to see growth and activity in the district and beyond during such a critical time.”
