Flights from Central Illinois to Detroit to Resume, from Bloomington-Normal
BLOOMINGTON -- Almost two years after flights ended between Peoria and Detroit, they are to begin between the Motor City and Bloomington-Normal.
A regularly scheduled flight between Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is to commence Oct. 11. It is to operate five days a week.
Delta Air Lines is to provide the non-stop service, according to a news release. It quoted Jay Allen, chairman of the Bloomington-Normal Airport Authority, as saying travel to and from the Rivian automobile manufacturing facility in Normal led to establishing the Detroit route.
Detroit is a hub for the auto industry and for Delta. It offers flights from there to about 90 U.S. and international destinations.
In November 2018, Delta discontinued twice-daily flights between Detroit and Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport. Low usage was cited.
The new flight is to depart Detroit at 4 p.m. Eastern time and arrive in Bloomington at 4:17 p.m. Central time. It is to depart Bloomington at 5:10 p.m. Central and arrive in Detroit at 7:25 p.m. Eastern.
The flight is not scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays.
