Denver-based Frontier Airlines will resume flights between Denver and Tyler beginning Sunday. Passengers will be required to wear a face covering and adhere to other safety protocols.

The airlines will offer a flight from Tyler Pounds Regional Airport to Denver International Airport once a week with a layover at DFW airport, said an announcement from the city on Thursday.

“Frontier is known for their low fares and a-la-carte service and has been hugely successful in East Texas,” said Operations Supervisor Drew Danielson, in a statement released by the city. “We are glad to be able to provide additional commercial air service options.”

The current schedule runs through June.

After coming to Tyler Pounds in 2019, the airlines suspended flights earlier this year, citing lack of sufficient demand to support its service.

The airlines has announced that beginning Friday, passengers must wear a covering over their nose and mouth at the airline’s ticket counters, gate areas and onboard aircraft.

Face coverings have been required for Frontier flight crews since April 13.

“We want our passengers to feel comfortable when flying with us by protecting themselves and their fellow travelers as we all navigate the COVID-19 pandemic,” Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines, said in a news release. “This new measure is aligned with CDC recommendations and those of many municipalities within the U.S. that include wearing a face covering when out in public.”

Very young children, for whom a face covering is inadvisable, will be exempt from the policy, the announcement said.

Frontier also has implemented a program that requires passengers to accept a health acknowledgment prior to completing check-in via the company’s website or mobile app. Passengers are required to certify that:

Neither they nor anyone in their household has exhibited COVID-19 related symptoms in the last 14 days;

They will check their temperature before heading to the airport and not travel if they have a fever;

They will wash their hands/sanitize before boarding the flight;

They will will use a face covering.

Frontier also announced that it has introduced to its aircraft cleaning and sanitation protocols a fogging disinfectant that administers a disinfecting solution proven to be effective against many viruses, including coronavirus.
