Easyjet's Germany Chief: Climate Debate Not Affecting Flight Sales
Berlin (dpa) - Budget airline Easyjet's Germany chief says that the debate about climate change and widespread protests for climate action have not affected flight sales.
Stephan Erler, the airline's country manager for Germany, told dpa: "We are looking at about 90 million passengers [in 2018] and are expecting more growth this year - we are therefore not able to discern a link to the climate debate."
The debate about climate change has been propelled by the United States' decision to pull out of the landmark Paris Climate Agreement and the "Fridays for Future" protests, which started in Sweden and have proliferated around the world.
Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, 16, has galvanized young people across Europe and beyond with her activism since organizing a school strike and rally outside the Swedish parliament in August.
