Great Teamwork Accelerates Deliveries of UK Medical Supplies

April 27, 2020

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) in the UK has handled over 100 tonnes of newly arrived medical supplies onboard cargo-only flights at Heathrow and Gatwick airports.

As part of WFS’ ongoing support of the country’s medical response to the coronavirus outbreak, shipments of personal protective equipment including face masks and aprons for healthcare workers were offloaded from flights from China, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Jordan and dispatched to the National Health Service (NHS) frontline within two hours of landing.

The cargo arrived in London onboard an Air China flight from Beijing as well as flights operated by Etihad Airways, Royal Jordanian and Saudi Arabian Airlines from Abu Dhabi, Amman and Riyadh, respectively, as the UK continues to source vital PPE supplies from around the world.

Paul Carmody, Managing Director – UK Cargo at WFS, said: “Given how the global air cargo market has changed since the outbreak of coronavirus, I especially want to recognise the application and positively shown by our UK team to ensure we apply all of our safety, security and handling skills to process these urgent shipments in such short timescales. That’s a great tribute to the teamwork being shown by our warehouse, ramp transport and clerical teams during this challenging period and their commitment to making a positive difference to reducing the impact of Covid-19. I am confident this will continue as we prepare for more medical and commercial cargo flights to the UK in the coming days.”
