Iberia Airport Services Handled 78 Million Passengers In 2014, Up 7.5 Percent

The largest growth in passenger traffic –more than 10 percent – was recorded at airports in popular tourist zones on the Mediterranean, such as Ibiza, Alicante and Malaga.

Last year Iberia’s handing division, called Iberia Airport Services, handled more than 78 million passengers and 330,000 aircraft belonging to Iberia and another 200 airlines at the 41 Spanish airports where it operates.

The largest growth in passenger traffic –more than 10%– was recorded at airports in popular tourist zones on the Mediterranean, such as Ibiza, Alicante and Malaga. 

The number of pieces of luggage handled by the Iberia unit increased by 3% in 2014 to 52 million, of which 17 million were in Madrid, while the number of unaccompanied minors attended grew by 8.5% to nearly 100,000.

The year saw Iberia Airport Services renew its contracts to serve major airline customers at Spanish airports, including Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Czech Airlines, and Egyptair, while winning new clients such as Pullmantur Air and Ethiopian Airlines. At the same time it extended services to some existing clients, like Aer Lingus, which it now serves in Madrid and Alicante.

Last year Iberia Airport Services submitted competitive bids to the AENA airports authority to operate at all Spanish airports.

Its operations range from handling from air cargo to ferrying cruise passengers to/from their ships, and its human and material resources are prepared to deal with any contingency.
