Pulkovo International Airport Modernizes its Passenger Service System in Cooperation with Amadeus

Dec. 13, 2021

Pulkovo International Airport in St. Petersburg, with a passenger traffic of almost 20 million in 2019, and Amadeus, a leading provider of information technology for the travel industry, announce the introduction of Amadeus Altéa Departure Control for Ground Handlers, an advanced check-in management system. The transition to the new technology became for Pulkovo airport another step in the implementation of a long-term strategy aimed at continuous improvement of the service for passengers.

The use of a flexible SaaS (software as a service) model in the Amadeus solution allows airlines to opt out of hosting their own check-in systems directly at Pulkovo Airport. Instead, ground handling operators will be able to provide their services to any airline through the Amadeus system using a single, modern interface. Agents of handling companies no longer have to switch between dozens of systems of different airlines, which is usually associated with lengthy training, low operational efficiency and inability to accommodate the unique requirements of each airline.

With the transition to new technology, the airport and airlines have additional benefits. For example, the ability to more effectively manage failure situations, thanks to the extended functionality of the system.

General director of Northern Capital Gateway LLC (operates Pulkovo airport) Leonid Sergeev noted: “We strive to be the industry leaders in terms of passenger service. There are more uncertainties and unforeseen situations in the world today than ever, and our agents at the airport need a system that will allow us to timely identify and manage any incidents in the service process. Amadeus is helping to optimize our IT infrastructure with state-of-the-art technology that supports our strategy to improve the passenger experience. ”

“We are pleased to provide technological support to Pulkovo Airport and share its desire to improve the quality of service for passengers. With this modernization, the airport will be able to reduce costs and gain a foothold in the recovery of demand conditions," added Yannick Benard, vice president airport then of IT in the region, the EMEA, the Amadeus .

Pulkovo airport agents will also have access to advanced flight control functionality, including for performing high-precision calculations for aircraft loading and alignment. Correct positioning of baggage in the baggage and cargo compartments of the aircraft will ensure optimal fuel consumption.
