Nov. 13, 2020

Nov. 13—WADSWORTH — AeroTrek Flight Academy is organizing a special flyover to honor local and regional first responders and health care workers who are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.

The flyover event will start at 3:30 p.m. Friday with a short ribbon-cutting for the newly paved runway 10/28 at the Wadsworth Municipal Airport.

Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laughbaugh will lead the ceremony along with city administrator Robert Patrick and AeroTrek co-founders Jason Lorenzon, Nick Belluardo, Ron Palitto, and Bryon Palitto.

"On behalf of the Wadsworth Airport, our flying community, and all those who enjoy the airport, we are very thankful to the City of Wadsworth for their ongoing support, most recently through a grant they received to restore runway 10/28," Bryon Pallito said in a press release.

AeroTrek is a flight school headquartered at Wadsworth Municipal Airport with a fleet of airplanes stationed at Wadsworth, Medina and Wayne County airports.

Also in attendance Friday will be Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Richfield Mayor Michael Wheeler, Rittman Mayor Bill Robertson, Wadsworth Councilman Tom Stugmyer, Rittman city administrator Bobbie Beshara, and Wadsworth Councilman-at-Large David Williams.

"As the numbers of those sickened by the disease continue to rise, it is increasingly important to thank those who are battling the pandemic every day, and AeroTrek is proud to let them know just how much we appreciate them," Lorenzon said in the release.

Capt. Gary Baker will lead the special mission between 4 and 5 p.m. in his smoke-producing airplane followed by the AeroTrek fleet that will fly in formation over the cities of Wadsworth, Rittman, Medina, Fairlawn, and Richfield.

Those who wish to see the ribbon-cutting and watch the fleet take off will be able to do so safely by wearing masks and social distancing.
