Private Jet Marketplace XO Launches Carbon Offset Program With South Pole

Aug. 11, 2020

New York, NY – Private aviation provider XO announced its carbon offset program — allowing clients to compensate for fuel use-related carbon emissions by purchasing certified carbon credits through its partnership with South Pole, one of the world’s leading providers of sustainability solutions.

For the 80,000+ passengers that XO serves annually, it is easy to offset the carbon emissions produced from flight activity. Whenever booking a flight through XO’s mobile app or website, clients now have the option to purchase certified carbon credits — with 100% of contributions going towards climate action projects around the world.

“The challenges of COVID-19 have not distracted XO from our responsibility to address the impacts of aviation on the environment," said Ron Silverman, Chief Business Officer of XO. "Driven by our Group’s commitment to sustainability, we are proud to announce our new partnership with South Pole. This partnership makes it simple and easy for everyone who books flights with XO to offset the carbon emissions generated by fuel consumption. We know that our clients want to do their part, and we are thrilled to bring them this opportunity.”

South Pole’s Commercial Director Global Transportation, Natalia Gorina, added: “With the recent decision to postpone the start of offsetting requirements for international flights under the ICAO climate scheme, private aviation can and should step in to act on sustainability, today. The post-coronavirus world will be a very different one, and, by offering its clients a means to compensate for the impact of their flight footprint, XO is supporting an industry-wide push for a greener recovery and a more sustainable future for business aviation.”

XO has chosen to support three climate action projects of exceptional quality. All projects are certified with the Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard, the two renowned and most used international standards in the voluntary carbon market. The Mamize efficient cookstoves project improves community health and protects panda habitat in rural China, the InfraVest Tongyuan wind farm supports Taiwan’s clean energy transition, and the Kariba forest protection project addresses deforestation and fosters sustainable livelihoods in Zimbabwe.

In addition to the carbon offset program, XO’s shared fleet model leverages technology to deliver an energy-efficient, “right plane, right time” solution, leveraging Al and machine learning to make flight routing as efficient as possible. Finally, the availability of individual seats on XO’s shared flight offerings optimizes capacity to mitigate individual flyers’ carbon footprint.
