July 9, 2021

Jul. 9—Russian aircraft designers plan to launch flights of electrical planes, Deputy Director of the International Institute for Energy Policy and Diplomacy of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, expert of the Sustainable Development Center under the Institute, Igbal Guliyev told Trend.

According to Guliyev, the designers are ready to present a prototype of the first experimental plane, which will be tested in the near future. Within the MAKS-2021 International Aviation and Space Salon event, which will be held on July 20-25 in Zhukovsky Airport, it's planned to take a Russian aircraft with an electric motor based on the Yak-40 plane up in the air.

Besides, the expert noted that Moscow is the leader in the number of active electric buses in Europe.

"A prototype of the first Russian 'Zetta' electric car has been developed at 'Zhiguli Valley' technopark in Tolyatti city. According to the plans of developers and manufacturers, by the end of this year, after revision and final elimination of all deficiencies, 'Zetta' will be put into mass production," he said. "It's assumed that the price of a compact three-door Russian electric car will start at 450,000 rubles (over $6,000) in the basic configuration with front-wheel drive, while sales are planned at the level of 10,000-15,000 electric vehicles per year."

He also said that the Russian car industry has ambitious plans for the production of hydrogen vehicles.

"Technologies for the production of electric vehicles and hydrogen transport are mainly similar, therefore, it will be possible to introduce hydrogen transport and establish its mass production. Both technologies and the government are ready for the development of hydrogen transport. Tentatively, the first buses on hydrogen fuel will already go on roads of Russian cities by 2023," added the expert. — Follow the author on Twitter: @ agdzhaev
