This new foam has been specifically developed for the aviation industry and is now on the Boeing Qualified Products List (QPL), meeting the stringent BMS8-385D (Grade 1, Type 1 and Grade 1 Type 4) standards.

Deer Park, NY – The Soundcoat Company is pleased to announce that it has received approval from The Boeing Company for its Soundfoam® ML HY G material, a hydrophobic, light-weight, flexible, open-cell, foam with excellent acoustic and thermal qualities.  This new foam has been specifically developed for the aviation industry and is now on the Boeing Qualified Products List (QPL), meeting the stringent BMS8-385D (Grade 1, Type 1 and Grade 1 Type 4) standards. The updated Boeing QPL includes both the newly qualified Grade 1 material as well as Soundcoat’s previously qualified Grade 2 (Soundfoam® ML HY ULb) material.

“We’re proud our products have received the recognition and approval of The Boeing Company after their comprehensive testing and review,” states Sandy Nenninger, Chief Executive Officer of Soundcoat.  “Our Soundfoam® ML HY products are the result of many years of research and development and close collaboration with aircraft manufacturers to ensure a high quality product.”

The primary use of Soundfoam® ML HY materials is aviation acoustic and thermal insulation and soft interior padding. Soundfoam® ML HY has hydrophobic/water repellent properties.  The combination of low density and water resistance make it ideal for installation in aircraft reducing overall weight helping manufacturers deliver fuel efficiencies. Soundfoam® ML HY also has oleophobic/oil repellent properties and exceptional resistance to flames meeting FAR 25.856(a). It does not drip upon ignition, ceases to burn after removal of the source of ignition and produces a minimal amount of smoke, making it suitable for applications where fire safety is a concern.

“Our Soundfoam® ML HY products can be ordered in a variety of ways to meet the needs of our customers including full buns, sheets, cut parts, wide widths or peeled and delivered in rolls,” states Nenninger.  “We’re also the only company that’s currently capable of processing full buns of raw foam material which gives our customers flexibility in ordering materials the way that best fits their needs.”

Customers can also order Soundfoam® ML HY products with decorative and protective finishes including PEKK, PEEK, Kapton®, Tedlar®, Nomex®, Nomex®/Tedlar®, Metalized Polyester and more.
