Feb. 2, 2021

On February 2, the U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of Peter Buttigieg as the nation’s 19th Secretary of Transportation.

NATA President and CEO Timothy Obitts applauded the announcement. “NATA congratulates Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. The aviation business industry is excited to engage with Secretary Buttigieg and his team as they work to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure. We, too, believe that transportation plays a central role in job creation and advancing the economy. The industry has also made great progress on sustainability initiatives and is encouraged that sustainability is a priority for both Secretary Buttigieg and President Biden. The aviation business industry is poised to continue reducing our carbon footprint, and we look forward to a partnership with the administration.”

Previously, Buttigieg served two terms as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, from 2012 to 2020; as a consultant for McKinsey & Company from 2007-2010; and as a U.S. Navy Reserve officer from 2009 to 2017, including a seven-month tour as a counterintelligence officer in Afghanistan.
